Dalmatian Solidarity Committee – DOS has been operating since 1992. Programme “Free Legal Aid” is the programme of DOS which has been conducted in Split-Dalmatia and Šibensko-kninska counties for the period of 15 years. After the War ended the programme had been directed towards help in return and integration of refugees and returnees on the area of special State concern. Since 2009 all project activities are focused in Split-dalmatia County and they include free legal assistance to citizens. More than a million people were beneficiaries of DOS humanitarian activities (free legal aid, humanitarian aid,..). All that activities are have great contribution in the terms of developing human rights protection as well as rule of law dimension in Republic of Croatia.

From 2009 DOS is registered by the Ministry of Justice as the organisations authorized to provide free legal aid.

DOS covers Split-Dalmatia County area but its activities are mainly focused on the urban area of Split town (aprox. 400.000 inhabitants) and nearby towns and islands, such as Kaštela, Trogir, Omiš, Brač island, Šolta island, Hvar and Vis islands. DOS is a member of the Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights Republic of Croatia together with nine more Croatian non-governmental organisations from different parts of Croatia. The Coalition monitors and oversees the consistent implementation of legal norms guaranteed by the constitution and their concordance with internationally accepted standards, and also educates, informs and makes the public more sensitive to the importance of respecting human rights. DOS is a member of the largest Croatian NGO coalition – Platforma 112 which monitors and oversees the consistent implementation of legal norms guaranteed by the Constitution and Laws. DOS is an active organization in the field of public advocacy, with the aim of building modern, democratic and fair society in Croatia.

  2. Board is composed of five persons: two doctors of law, two lawyers and a University professor. DOS President is a Doctor of Law and Vice President is a Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Law in Split

Since 1992 DOS has been provided free legal aid to citizen’s in the following fields:

-          Status rights
-          rights of unemployed
-          Health Insurance
-          Welfare
-          protection against domestic violence
-          housing care
-          Inheritance law

Free legal aid is intended for low-income citizens, such as: unemployed, pensioners with minimum pensions, women and other socially vulnerable persons.
